Barbel are a hugely popular fish amoungst anglers due to their sheer strength and power. They live mostly in fast flowing rivers which is one of the reasons they are so strong. The most popular rivers for barbel fishing are the rivers Trent, Wye, Avon, Teme, Great Ouze, and Severn, as their conditions are perfect for barbel.
They are bottom feeding fish and are normally caught in areas such as pools, holes, or where the water slows up. For example areas of still water or swirls on the edge of fast currents is an excellent place to fish.
